Rainwater Harvesting - Collaborative Efforts Towards Smart Sustainable Future

Rain water harvesting is with us for centuries. It is a traditional technique to save and collect rain water, rather than allowing it to run off. Various urban and rural areas really have devised various methods to harvest the rain water for ages. Many municipal corporations have made rain water harvesting mandatory for upcoming residential as well as commercial projects and yet the communities are not so keen to utilize the water coming from their bore-well, due to hardness and many salts in the water. Water softeners are provided before allowing the water in the tanks or taps.

The students at School of Civil Engineering, MIT-WPU are always trying to apply a unique approach towards the problems faced by our fellow countrymen. At this hour of need, with the facilities and encouragement given to the students, they are joining hands with Electronic Engineering students and Computer Engineering to develop sensors to detect the proportion of salt deposited in the rain water in the bore wells. The sensor system can be installed during the construction of the distribution network of tanks and pipelines. These sensors at any given time, will monitor and control the water before its distribution. The students are very excited about this innovative concept and working in interdisciplinary research projects. This displays the enthusiasm amongst the students to work together and make difficult times simpler. This can only happen at School of Civil Engineering MIT-WPU.
